I've had Cutco for 35yrs, the full set plus a set of table knives. I use it daily and like it a lot. However the first time I had a problem - the paring knife tip broke off, just a bit on the end - I sent it back for replacement and received my same knife back, but with the blade simply ground down till it had a point again. No longer do I have the nice balanced graceful blade but a stubby blade that does not work as well. At that same time I purchased another paring knife from Cutco because I use it so much, trusting that Cutco was going to replace the first knife. That blade now has a chip out of it, about 1/4" down from the tip. I am afraid if I send it to them they'll simply grind off a lot of metal again, leaving me with something that is not the knife I purchased. It isn't much of a guarantee, in my opinion. Oh, and now that I'm thinking about it, a couple of the long-bladed knives have corrosion in the handles where the blade metal touches the handle material, which means it will one day separate. And yes, you can put them in the diswasher but they lose their glossy finish. I would try another brand before buying from them again.

I grew up in a very frugal home with a mother who didn't cook very much. When you put these two things together, not much money was spent on cooking items --- cheap was the watchword and I grew up using pretty awful knives. Recently, I bought a full set of Cutco knives including the wooden block and all I can say is "wow". The difference these make is huge. The knives are incredibly sharp and just cutting the ends off an ear of corn yesterday was a much easier task than previously with cheaper knives. I will say they are so sharp you really need to be careful or you could injure yourself pretty quickly. For that reason, I like the wooden block since you aren't sticking your hand into a drawer of sharp blades --- you just grab the handle and it seems much safer.I have only had these for about 6 weeks so I can't comment on how they will last over the years, but I am very impressed so far.

I inherited a full set which my parents bought in the 1950's, They are super. My mother never let them soak in the sink, so they are like new. I sharpen them regularly and am always amazed at how well they have held up and the job they do with ease. You will never regret purchasing these knives. Money well spent especially since they have a lifetime guarantee.
