Although the board is sturdy and spacious, the fact is that it is not disclosed in the description of the product that the board will be two toned. The board had a white strip across both sides so it marred the uncluttered look I was trying to achieve in my kitchen. What is pictured is not what you will receive. Buyer beware.This is a follow up review after 2 weeks of usage. The cutting board has started to warp. It has been under normal home use conditions so it is surprising that the warping is starting so soon. I am going to try to oil the block and see whether it flattens out. Will update review.This is a follow up review after 2 months of usage. The oiling of the block on the concave side and using the reverse side for the last month did the trick and the cutting board is now flat again after about a month. I now reverse the cutting board regularly so that both sides get equal amounts of use and moisture. I oil both sides every 3-4 weeks to keep the board in shape.

The board is nice and hefty, however when applying the oil to the board today I wiped off the excess oil and a bunch of stain as well. I'm grossed out thinking the stain could get into the food I will cut up on the board. I have tile counters, so I'll keep it as a stable working surface, but I'll use another board to cut food. Way too expensive to have stain come off just by applying the oil.

The John Boos 24x18x1.5 walnut cutting board is both functional and downright beautiful. This was my Christmas present request. I would have been happy with the plain-jane maple board but.. so glad the hub sprang for the walnut one. The size is terrific...plenty of prep space and the ability to flip to a clean side is genius. It looks and feels like a fine piece of furniture. Wonderfully crafted. What a great addition to my kitchen.
