These knives are amazing. I have never owned knives so sharp. I mean, I know they are supposed to be sharp, but this is just insane. I think I could cut a piece of paper with one of these knives the way they do on those Ginsu commercials, but I'm totally not willing to risk my awesome knives just for that.They cut tomatoes. TOMATOES!!! Without sawing even! I mean like...it goes RIGHT THROUGH the skin like it was nothing. TOMATOES!!!One of them has recently tasted blood, so we try to keep it in the block. There are plenty of others in the set though, we use those instead.

I spent a great deal of time learning about knives before I made this purchase. I am partial to Chicago Cutlery since that is what my mom has used for years. I needed a good all-around knife set that would give me the basics and that is exactly what I got from this purchase. They are sharp, and with the sharpening tool I can keep them that way. But do be ware, the handles are unfinished wood it is not a good idea to leave them sitting in a sink or in water. I knew this, and I liked the idea of the old fashioned wood handles, but they do require some upkeep. If you are planning on purchasing this set, also purchase a small bottle of mineral oil. The handles will need to be oiled after every use until they no longer feel as though they are splintery when you use them. This is NOT a manufacturing defect, but rather a byproduct of having the old fashioned wooden handles. If that is not what you are looking for do not buy this set. The block is well-made, and a great color. Only time will tell on the durability of this product, but so far so good.

Bought these knives a year ago and they are holding up quite nicely. They haven't seen the inside of our dishwasher because I plan on having these for a long long time. Some folks complain about kitchen knives in general rusting in the dishwasher. I'd be more worried about the dishwasher soap drying out the wood handles. Maybe it's the soap or hard water, I've never had a problem with any of my older knives rusting. They did get banged around in the dishwasher and that's never a good thing for a sharp edge. Cleaning your knives immediately after use might sound like a chore but if you do it you'll find they are easier to clean before the food dries on them and they are ready right away if you need them.Enough of that.These knives arrived sharp and have stayed that way with just a few rubs with the supplied steel.Try to get them on sale.
